The Special Maritime Library at Your Service
The Centre for Maritime Studies has a special maritime library, which has a comprehensive collection of literature on maritime economics, maritime politics and maritime legislation. The library subscribes to the most important domestic and foreign serial and statistical publications and it is also possible to study the annual reports of shipping companies and ports there. In addition, the library had reference books in electronic form.
The books and publications available at the library are indexed in VOLTER, the online catalogue of the Turku University Library. From VOLTER there are also links to libraries of other universities. It is possible to order books through Volter to the CMS and also other branches of the Mathematics and Science Library. The library is also in charge of editing the maritime section of Arto, the reference database of Finnish articles. Arto also contains references to articles concerning seafaring in Finland published in foreign journals.
The Centre for Maritime Studies publishes three serials, one international and two national. In these serials, the Centre publishes, for example, its own research reports and important conference reports. The publications of the Centre for Maritime Studies promote general teaching and research in the maritime field; the Centre also publishes maritime research and studies by other researchers and students.
